Fashion Photobook
The project was designed during my undergraduate studies of Art & Design History and Practice in partial completion of the Special Topics in Art and Design History: 80s Nostalgia module. Fashion Photo Book represents a visual counterpart of the essay titled “Defining Postmodernism and its Creative Potential through the Lens of Alessandro Michele’s Gucci”, while it comprises of the photographs showcasing six outfits assembled and photographed by me.
The main intention of the project was to capture the vintage fashion items originating in the period from the 1950s to the 1990s, combined with contemporary fashion items, to prove this way of dressing oneself has the potential to evolve into an individual, authentic and more sustainable style and so efficiently communicate ones’ identity while also helping the planet.
The design of the photobook became subsequently inspired by the philosophy of the current creative director of Gucci, Alessandro Michele, who consciously practices maximalism and a premise that “more is more”, reflected within the approach of referencing, blending and layering the past and contemporary styles to create something fresh and authentic.
The selection of different weights and colour variations of stock, co-existence of digital and analogue photographic documentation, and acetate cover, hand-bound into a publication, consciously reference the stylistic principles of the past decades and so thoroughly complete the overall content of the photo book and the accompanying essay.
