Psychogeographic Narratives of Prešov & London is the tile of my final major project completed during my postgraduate studies. The artist’s book, presents two different ways of visualising and communicating physically experienced and imagined urban environments through the use of psychogeographic research of Prešov and London, specifically from the cultural and social perspective.
The publication comprises of two individual counterparts- Prešov and London-linked together using the dos-à-dos binding, revealing the similarities and differences between the two urban environments, the reader can observe while flipping through the book. The folding element used across the entire publication is directly responsive to the content, and therefore, creates a balanced piece of design.
The content of the book itself consists of the narratives describing one day spent wandering around Prešov in real life, and the imaginary walking in London, which is reflected in the concrete and abstract graphic elements used respectively throughout each part of the book.
Visual language of the publication includes illustrations, photographs, and various print experiments, while utilising the antiquated and often neglected creative production methods and techniques. By doing so it is trying to propose the possible ways of challenging the traditional modes of describing the urban experiences within the contemporary corporate graphic design industry.
All of the utilised production techniques can be realised and re-produced in the domestic environment, highlighting the need for the graphic designers to be innovative, creative and critical under any given circumstances.
